Recently, my wife has been on my case to start replacing some of our older (but still functioning) kitchen appliances with some new shiny ones.  But not just shiny as in new - no, she means also shiny as in shiny brushed steel appliances or chrome applainces!  she wants to get a new toaster (shiny) anew toaster oven (shiny), a new kettle (yes shiny too), anew microwave (shiny? okay) and even a new coffee maker (yes  you guessed it: shiny steel)!  Okay we won a minor lottery ticket recently, not al ot but enough to refit our modest kitchen with shiny new appliances apparently!

  I actually thought that I could argue against it just on the grounds that we both get to decide the money's destination - that it would have to be mutual decision and that as aman I could be expected to argue against it .

  Yeah that didn't work.

  It turns out that my darling wife had some gender ammunition of her own: she found an example of a guy who  is a  shining example of a man who is happily married  (to a woman) and is also happy with having shiny new appliances in his kitchen!  Ouch - no fair.  To top it off , the blog this guy wrote  even gave my wife  the idea of adding to the shiny steel list;  the guy talked about him and his wife getting their shiny new Rival Crock Pot  - all shiny because it  had abrushed steel look to it!  Great, more things to add to the list....
